Our Pal Chloe

Jackie: "This is our pal Chloe. After Cookie ran for the Nestle Pet of the month, Chloe decided that she would run for the title Miss June Nestle Pet of the Month herself. If our blogworld friends would please vote for our friend Chloe, we would appreciate it so much.

Now I want to warn you, there are some other very cute dogs running, but don't be diverted into voting for one of them. Also, if you accidently vote for one of the three CATS running, we don't want to know about it."

Cookie: "Yeah, there is also a bird running this month. Birds are for eating--I don't know how food can run for the Nestle Pet of the Month. It is like a bag of pet snacks running for the Pet of the Month."

Jackie: "I have never eaten a bird."

Cookie: "That is because you can't jump high enough to catch a bird. They are such a pleasure to spend the afternoon chewing on."

Jackie: "Don't let Valerie hear you talking like that. She loves birds and is planning to get one when you....well when you.....well you are kind of old and when you....."

Cookie: "When I DIE?! Aaaaaack! I don't want to hear anymore!"

Jackie: "Calm down. You are in good health. You won't die for a long time. Besides, we are getting off the subject here: Vote for Chloe!"

Cookie: "I already did!"

Carpet Cleaning

Cookie: "We are shut out in the backyard again! I hate it when Mama gets the carpets cleaned. We have been shut out in the yard all day." Cookie: "Mama! Mama! Let me in!"
Jackie: "Cookie, look through the window. Is anyone coming?"

Cookie: "Let me look.....no. No one is coming."

Jackie: "I don't know why we have to stay outside when the carpet is wet. I don't mind it being wet. It doesn't change any of my routines. I still patrol inside and outside of the house."

Jackie: "I have very clean paws. Oh what if Mama never lets us in again. We are house pets. Maybe we will never be allowed in the house again. Maybe James and Valerie won't come out in the backyard and play with us anymore. Maybe.....
Cookie: "Jackie, you are being silly. I have survived lots and lots of carpet cleanings. I hate it too, but we eventually will get to go back in the house. The best thing to do is remind the family that we are here."
Annie: "Well maybe if we look through the screen door."
Annie: "Maybe if I scratch on the window."
Annie: "Maybe a really big BARK!"
Jackie: "Annie! Let's jump up on the window together!"

Annie: "I am in there for that!"

Cookie: "Let's jump up on the window and hollar for the kids all together!"

Annie: "Okay! One, two three BARK!"

Jackie: "Are the kids coming?"
Cookie: "Oh, I give up. I am going to get under the shade tree."Annie: "I am not giving up! I trust James and Valerie. They will not forget that we are there."

Jackie: "You are right Annie. I trust them too."Jackie: "Here comes Valerie! I think she is going to let us in!
Annie: "Thanks Valerie. You are my girl!"

Self-Serve Petting

Jackie: "Cookie, what are you doing?"

Cookie: "I like to be petted, but sometimes Mama doesn't pay attention...so I give myself a little selve-serve petting." Cookie: "Mama is reading the paper in this rocking chair, but her hand is dangling."
Cookie: "All I have to do is come over and move my head around under her hand. Voila! Self-serve petting."
Cookie: "The key is that you have to be tall enough to reach the hand properly. I don't think you are tall enough to do this, Jackie."
Jackie: "I know you are right about that."

Cookie: "You can also turn around under the hand to get full coverage."

Cookie: "I have to admit that I prefer a full-attention pet, but a self pet will work in a pinch."
Jackie: "Wow, Cookie, you are so smart!"

Waiting

Jackie: "Whew, what a week. Everybody coming and going and coming and going. I am glad the family is finally home."Cookie: "Home for now. Everyone is doing end-of-the-school-year stuff. Valerie sang a solo in her school concert last night and Mama and James are going camping with the Boy Scouts again this weekend." Annie: "I don't like the end of the school year then. I like it when my people are home. Why can't Valerie sing at home and James and Mama camp at home?"Jackie: "Well, I guess that is a dog's life. We spend a lot of time waiting for our people to come home.....we are always waiting for them when they get back here."

In the Bed

Jackie: "I like the end of the day. I like to cuddle up in the bed when the house is quiet."

Annie: "Yes, it is good to be comfortable, now settle down, Pup."

Jackie: "I can't settle until I make sure everything is quiet for the night.Jackie: "I think I need to make one last sweep of the house to make sure all is secure."Annie: "You go right ahead. I will keep this spot warm and wait for you right here."Annie: "Ahhhhh. Comfort."

Jackie: "Annie, I am glad you came to live here with us. You are a good mother to me."

Annie: "I have had a lot of puppies; I am glad that I got to keep one. I am your mother and I love you Jackie." Jackie: "I love you too, Annie. Happy Mother's Day."

What's on the Loose?

Jackie: "What's going on in here? I keep seeing a cricket hopping around. I had better take care of this." Jackie: "WHAT! This is one of James' toads! Hmmmm......I wonder if toads are good to eat...."
James: "Jackie!"

The "Other" Housepets

Jackie: "There are other housepets living in this house. James has been raising toad and frog tadpoles in the dining room. Let me just say that I don't approve of tadpoles. They are no good at helping out with the security of the household. "They are NOT cute.
"You can't hold them, pet them, or cuddle them like you can dogs.
"They are NOT good company.
"They dirty their water.
"BUT....they are far and away better than CATS!
