Always on Guard

Jackie: "I am a very alert security dog. I may look like I am sunning myself out here in this fresh air, but I am VERY alert."
Annie: "You sure do look like you are on guard.....what are you guarding against?"

Jackie: "Well, against other dogs, birds and people who might walk by, of course! I would have made a wonderful police dog. I regret not being able to go into that kind of service."
Annie: "Er...don't you think you are a little, well, small for police dog work?"

Jackie: "OF COURSE NOT!! What do you mean?"

Annie: "Nothing."

Cookie: "We make a good team, because I am out here on security detail too. I need to protect the yard perimeter. No one goes in and no one goes out without my approval."
Cookie: "I have even been known to occasionally catch a bird....I might share it with you, but usually I like to offer it to Mama first. She loves it when I bring a bird in to chew on the living room rug...she thinks I am so clever and fast. I have to stay alert to catch one."

Jackie: "Yes, we have to stay alert together. I think I will just have a good stretch in this warm sun before I get really alert."

Annie: "This sun feels good on my stitches....I am glad Mama took the collar off for a little while. I am glad to let the two of you guard. I will just sun today." Cookie: "Yawwwnnnn....alert.....very alert.....zzzzzzzzzzz."Jackie: "Police dog.....zzzzzzzz."

Annie: "Wow....what alert guard dogs they are.....ha!"
